5 wins in 30 matches
An additional three-year contract and the end of the collaboration beforehand: the Brussels-Liège meeting this Sunday (90-98) will have a double effect. On Monday morning, FC Luik announced the extension of Lionel Bosco’s contract extension for three seasons (until July 31, 2025). A few hours later, the Brussels Club called the end of the collaboration with Ian Hanavan.
Extraordinarily human and humane above the fray, the American would never tactically lay his foot down. Responsible for Brussels since 2020-21, a delicate year the Covid protocol and the 12th Palace of the main team, the former Leuven Bears player has only achieved 4 wins in 26 matches. A balance to take into account the quality of the workforce, if the chemistry between young Belgians and Americans at the end of their careers didn’t have the effects.
The Brussels budget frankly does not allow any madness. The Phoenix team leaders have made up their minds about selection mistakes and changed their tune in the off-season. Now it’s time for a team that looks like Brussels and foreign players with the right mentality. Hanavan continued to command, but encountered more targets.
Assistant Peter de Groff (formerly Cangueros) left the team before the three shots in the competition. In four games this season, Hanavan and Brussels have only one success. The final defeat, again horrific in numbers (98 points waived), would be one too many. We don’t know about the Brussels dressing room no longer supports his coach, but it’s up to us, because the managers of Neder Over Hempek have scheduled an evaluation meeting with the coach around December. Until then, they won’t wait.
The new coach will be Jean-Marc Gaumen, the former great Belgian international. The 51-year-old from Brussels has already had a successful career as he passed through Ostend, Dean Helder, Lugano Geneva, Aalst and most recently Den Bosch, with whom he completed the play-off final in the Netherlands last season.
