The roses of San Marino
“Since then, in June, the pilgrimage of white roses has been made in Valdragone, which bloom in copies, but precisely in June …”
CARLO FILIPPINI. The Folklore of San Marino concerns numerous legends and folk tales spread throughout the territory and some of these have been handed down to us through the narration of our elders during the waking hours. Once in the countryside, at least until the early 1900s, when there was still no television or other ways to have fun, on winter evenings, when the cold and frost had put work in the fields on hold. families gathered in the stables, where the beasts, with their breath, warmed the environment. They were called the “vigils”, and they were attended by family members along with neighbors and any guests. The narration is by Vittoria Gazzei – Barbetti published on 13 June 1932 in “Pro Famiglia” – Milan. (…)
