Verona, the councilorship for loneliness is born in Povegliano: “A post-pandemic support”
A department created specifically to take care of the needs of lonely people: the Department of Solitude, set up by the new mayor of Povegliano Veronese Roberta Tedeschi, of which Nicol Vaiente was in charge. Thirty-five-year-old from Povegian, with a degree in music, but a sommelier by profession, Vaiente is proud to play this role: The idea of establishing a role Department of Solitude was the strong point of the election campaign – says the new councilor -. we come from a dramatic pandemic, which has exacerbated sociality even here, in our small reality of 7200 inhabitants.
People at the center
Not the number of people the company gives, but the involvement and the relationships to weave the ranks of the social network. The point here. We want to put people at the center – continues Vaiente -. We want to start from people, not only theoretically, but concretely, going to check what they are situations and the most fragile and marginalized people. We must not think that lonely people are only the elderly and people with health problems, because the disease does not go hand in hand with loneliness. There may be situations of loneliness even behind an apparent normal everyday life, made up of good health and work.
Path to build
To frame the range of people to be supported, we must first make a recognition of all cases, in agreement with the health company and our social services offices – the councilor for loneliness describes his action plan as follows. The secret is in the involvement. Come? Too early to tell. The goal in mind is clear, but the path will be written. We will study which activities and workshops actively, based on the result of the survey and after a classification of the cases. the first action, banal but tangible, will be to find people: myself, as a councilor, certainly honored to do so, but we will have to do medium reasoning and long term with the rest of the council and with social services.
Nobody feels alone
On Monday 18 October at 6 pm there will be the first municipal council open to the public, in the atrium of the city middle schools. Before Povegliano, the idea of the councilorship for solitude had been included in a municipal administration Antonella Argenti, mayor of Villa del Conte, in the province of Padua, ahead of the pandemic and lockdown. Good politics too – Nicol specifies -. Identify good ideas, socially useful, that work and then vibrate the strings to put them into practice. Maybe Vaiente will find opportunities for comparison to better face the mandate in his colleague councilor for solitude at Villa del Conte, Graziella Vigri. Loneliness feeling alone in front of something, with respect to a family and loved ones – he concludes -. Feeling small, helpless, helpless even just in front of the formation of a module.
