L214 protests in front of Burger King for explaining their chicken farming practices
Activists of the L214 association gathered in front of a Burger King establishment in Toulouse on Saturday, October 16, to have expressed the American chicken farming practices.
“Welcome to the realm of cruelty”. In front of the Burger King on Boulevard de Strasbourg in Toulouse, L214 developed the red carpet marked with a clear message, not without a train of humor. Because it is by using the visual codes of the American brand that about twenty activists denounced Saturday, October 16 their chicken farming practices.
“Burger King is one of the main restaurant chains in France, and they refused to sign the European Chicken Commitment” explains Cécilia Auqua, L214 co-referent in Toulouse, disguised as a team member of the channel like the rest of the demonstrators. Several large retail chains and fast food brands are committed to obtaining supplies by 2026 from chicken farms and slaughterhouses that meet new criteria for poultry welfare. A text carried by about thirty associations, which the American giant has refused to commit for two years.
Shake up people’s perception of intensifying farming
“We want to eradicate the worst practices of raising and slaughtering” pursuit of the activist. The association is asking for access to the outdoors or to a winter garden for at least 20% of Burger King’s supply. His cap with the logo of the sign on his head and his black habits, Raimon is standing in front of the restaurant. With this operation, he hopes to raise awareness among passers-by. “The chickens are going to be piled up, they are transported in horrible ways, slaughtered in the worst conditions … We want to show that reality.”
Some people are sensitive to it, such as a young man marked by this punching operation. “I often eat at the Burger King, but seeing that, reading what is written there and what people are saying … it changes mentalities.”. He assures him, henceforth he will no longer be one of the brand’s customers. Others, on the other hand, are not affected by the cause brought by L214. “I like this restaurant, I have nothing against it. That will not prevent me from going there” says another passer-by, however understanding the activists’ approach.
Several other similar actions were organized in France this Saturday by L214. For now, Burger King has not reacted to these protests.
