ResetEra was sold to Sweden’s MOBA network for $ 4.55 million
The Swedish company MOBA Network has announced the acquisition of one of the world’s largest gaming forums, ResetEra, for as much as 4.55 million dollars.
If you follow news about video games and the wider industry, you will probably see ResetEra mentioned quite often. The forum, created in 2017 after NeoGAF was rocked by allegations of misconduct against its owner, earns about $ 700,000 a year through ads. Its members include many professionals in the video game industry as well as journalists.
“MOBA Network sees great opportunities to increase advertising revenue through a higher share of direct sales, implementation of new ad formats and a long-term product development strategy,” it says in a press release. MOBA Network therefore estimates that ResetEra.com can increase sales significantly in 2022 while maintaining EBITDA [Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization] margin.”
In a few short years, ResetEra has received over 45 million forum posts and about 55,000 members. The moderators work on a voluntary basis.
Over on forum, owner Cerium assured members that the daily operations of the site will not change and that the MOBA Network will remain practical.
“I have struggled with this decision for a long time now, but when I am honest with myself, I know I will not be able to continue with this forever,” Cerium wrote. “The right thing was to find a responsible buyer for the site.”
Cerium revealed that there were several interested buyers, but he chose MOBA Network because it has a good experience of acquiring websites and giving them the resources they need to succeed without disrupting their business.
