The Amazon warehouse sort of earth near Caen

In this fall 2021, the machines are multiplying and the building is erected at Moult-Chicheboville, near Caen (Calvados), on the former plot of CID bois, sold to a company for the establishment of a warehouse for the global online commerce giant Amazon.
This 6.5 hectare site is located in the Moult business area, not far from the McDonald’s roundabout.
“Amazon wants this to be ready as quickly as possible”
For more than a month, the site has been in full swing. So much so that the structure of Amazon’s future warehouse has already sprung from the ground. “Amazon wants this delivery agency to be ready as quickly as possible”, slips Philippe Pesquerel, the president of the Val ès Dunes community of municipalities.
At the end of winter, in March 2021, associations and collectives united under the name Stop Amazon 14 had lodged a graceful appeal with the town hall of Moult-Chicheboville to have Amazon’s building permit withdrawn. On April 19, Mayor Coralie Arruego rejected their appeal.
This logistics platform implementation project is the result of an agreement between two private partners. If the building permit respects all administrative requests, the municipality cannot oppose it and this is the case for Amazon. There are rules and fortunately the elected officials do not have all the powers.
The Stop Amazon 14 collective wanted to file a legal action before the administrative court, but “no legal action has been filed,” Amazon confirmed.
An opening planned for 2022
The 7,600 m² Amazon building is under construction in the Moult business area. It will be a delivery agency, not a distribution center where millions of goods are stored.
The role of this so-called “last mile” delivery agency is to allow us to be as close as possible to customers.
What to mesh more closely the Calvados. Regarding the road linked to the establishment of Amazon, the mayor of Moult-Chicheboville Coralie Arruego indicated, a few months ago, “that it would be a traffic of ten heavy goods vehicles between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. in the morning. Then, there will be around 200 vans between 5.30am and 2pm on the RD613 where 23,000 vehicles circulate every day, including nearly 10,000 heavy goods vehicles ”. The ongoing creation of the Vimont-Bellengreville deviation was also a major asset for Amazon.
If the American e-commerce giant “has no precise date” concerning the opening of the Moult warehouse (“everything will depend on the progress of the site”), Amazon specifies that “it will be in the course of 2022”.
