Cristóvão represents the Portugal Cup at Le Mans at the Autódromo do Algarve
Miguel Cristóvão competes this year in the Portuguese stage of the Le Mans Cup, a race that will be accompanied by the European Le Mans Series on his visit to the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve between the 22nd and 24th of October.
The Portuguese, after being Champion of the GT4 South European Series in 2019, came to focus his career on performing LMP3 cars – the first step in the pyramid of tests sanctioned by the ACO, which has the LMH at the top and has as its flagship race the 24 Hours of Le Mans – quite successfully, having won the Ultimate Cup Series last year.
In 2021, Miguel Cristóvão continued in the same competition and with the same victorious path, having won four races so far, which allows him to lead the Drivers Championship with an advantage of forty points when there are only fifty to compete.
With this comfort in the competition in which he aims to become two-time champion this year, the Portuguese decided not to participate in the fifth round of the Ultimate Cup Series to take part in the Portuguese stage of the Le Mans Cup, a competition that is the antechamber of the European Le Mans Series and even the World Endurance Championship.
“The season is going very well for us and we have a good lead in the championship, which allows us not to participate in the Magny-Cours event and we are still in a very good position to win the title in Estoril, which would be fantastic, in front of the Portuguese public. I am thus free to participate in the Le Mans Cup in the Algarve, which was something I really wanted. It’s a fantastic competition, with a very high level and lots of cars on the track. I think it is a good step for my career”, said Miguel Cristóvão.
The Portuguese will return to a defender as the core of Equipe Virage, his usual team, being accompanied by Sacha Lehmann. A race from the round of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve will be broadcast live on SportTV.
