Vaccari news – Poste San Marino / 1 Three years to act
It is the time granted to the current general manager, Gian Luca Amici, to transform the active company on Mount Titano. The interview
The current general manager of Poste San Marino has a banking background. Born on October 17, 1974, he started as a cashier at a very young age, up to playing the role of deputy general manager (in the meantime, studying in the evening, he graduated in Economics and Management, with 110 cum laude). After two years on the board of directors of the central bank, on January 1st, the postal operator entered the office with a three-year contract.
“Three years of trial; I accepted the challenge ”, admits in this interview with“ Vaccari news ”Gian Luca Amici. “The first months were useful for understanding the sector and formulating the industrial plan”.
What is the internal situation? “Now the company is at a loss; in 2020 it recorded 3.9 million euros in turnover, but the personnel costs alone amounted to 3.5, an item that considerably causes the business to become plastered. In 2013 there were 144 employees; at my arrival 100, I am now 90. The will is a more flexible and responsive organizational system to the changes that are affecting the sector, characterized by a sharp decline in paper correspondence ”.
“The international evolution of postal administrations, aimed at liberalizing the sector, has contributed in the past years to the decision to start the transformation of the San Marino postal administration from a public office to a public body and then into a joint stock company. However, the path towards a lean, efficient and profitable reality has never been completed, because Poste San Marino has not taken a definitive path. The result is a hybrid model, characterized by complex management, partly subject to the rules of public law such as the current classification of its employees and partly to the legislation concerning private law companies. In the meantime, a popular initiative bill was presented to internalize Poste San Marino in the public administration, with the request to return the structure to a public office “. “In my view, a public structure cannot be so flexible as to ride the parcel market, for example, where there are very fierce competitors capable of adapting quickly to any changes in the market. One could remain private at least for now; if we then see that there are no possibilities, at that point we will return to the public, guaranteeing however only correspondence and continuing to remain in the passive “(continues).
