Garbage collectors are requisitioned in Marseille
Garbage collectors have been requisitioned in Marseille, around sixty agents must intervene on the order of the prefecture to describe the streets, while a partial strike is still in progress. The bad weather on Monday pushed thousands of tons of waste to the beaches and the sea. Clean-up operations also took place on Wednesday.
According to the prefecture, “Despite the partial resumption of the household waste collection activity following the strike that began on September 27, several thousand tonnes of waste are still present on the public highway in several towns in the metropolis.“. The prefect decided by decree to”requisition the personnel strictly necessary for the restoration of public order, for a maximum period of three days“.
