A young Salzburg FPÖ functionary who “repeatedly attracted attention because of his proximity to right-wing extremism” with Internet postings is now to be excluded from the state youth council. The advisory board decided on Tuesday evening.
The functionary shared pictures of the occupation of the Catholic pastoral office in Linz by masked right-wing extremists two weeks ago on social media and thus supported them, is the argument of political opponents of freedom.
The result of the vote in the state youth council on Tuesday evening was then clear: 17 out of 18 people present were in favor of expelling the Salzburg FPÖ functionary. He is said to have shared photos of masked people in the pastoral office in Linz – and thus also their motifs, as it is called. The demonstrators are said to have called themselves “patriotic activists” and occupied the church office to protest because they do not want a memorial for drowned asylum seekers.
The youth spokesmen for ÖVP, ÖVP and Greens welcome the expulsion of the FPÖ. Right-wing extremists have no place in the youth council.
Vice-party leader points to freedom of expression
The current FPÖ state party chairman Hermann Stöllner said in an initial reaction that he was against someone being excluded from a committee because of his or her political opinion.
The responsible state youth councilor Andrea Klambauer (NEOS) argued that the state youth advisory board is about tolerance towards other religions and nationalities. She now wants to call on the Ring of Freedom Youth (RFJ) to send another member to the advisory board. Now the state government has to decide on the exclusion.
