This is how the refreshment vaccination works in Salzburg
In addition to the National Vaccination Committee (NIG), the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has been recommending a booster vaccination with BioNTech since yesterday. “We started this in the middle of September in the particularly endangered group and are gradually rolling out the offer to all Salzburg residents,” said Deputy Governor Christian Stöckl.
Refreshment vaccinations in Salzburg continue
As of Friday, October 1st, around 900 residents of senior citizens’ homes in Salzburg have already received their booster vaccinations against the corona virus. This week it continues with 350 people marked for it. According to the recommendation of the NIG, people with previous illnesses and high or particularly high risk and people over 65 years of age are also given priority. In total, over 4,400 people have already received another dose. Vaccination coordinator Rainer Pusch answers the most frequently asked questions about booster vaccinations.
When should I get my COVID-19 booster vaccination?
The following people should receive a booster vaccination six to nine months after completion of full immunization:
- Residents of old people’s, nursing and retirement homes
- People with previous illnesses and high or particularly high risk (according to the prioritization of the National Vaccination Committee)
- People over 65 years of age
- People who have been vaccinated twice with the AstraZeneca vaccine
Retained staff in old people’s, nursing and retirement homes, staff in the health sector, staff in mobile care, support, nursing and 24-hour care as well as caring relatives and staff in educational institutions after nine to 12 months.
All other people should receive a booster dose nine to 12 months after completing full immunization.
Do you also need a Genesis refresher?
Recovered people will receive a booster vaccination as described above if they have only been vaccinated once. If you have already received two doses of the vaccine, a booster vaccination is not necessary until further notice.
How can I register for the COVID-19 booster vaccination?
For the COVID-19 booster vaccination, please register at the place where YOU received your first or second vaccination. You are also welcome to choose a different impfordination. A search function is available for this purpose at salzburg.gv.at/corona-imichtung. Vaccination campaigns without prior notification can be found at salzburg.gv.at/einfachimpfen. Everyone who is registered at salzburg-impft.at will automatically receive a notification.
Why should I get a COVID-19 booster vaccination?
As with most vaccinations, the vaccination protection decreases over time with the COVID-19 vaccination. For long-lasting protection, a booster vaccination is necessary after completion of the full immunization. This is especially true for older people and people with limited immune defenses. Experience from other countries shows that a booster vaccination can shorten infections, vaccination breakthroughs and hospital stays.
I have SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in my blood. Do I still need another dose?
Yes absolutely. The recommendation of the National Vaccination Committee is decisive here. So far, there is no scientific knowledge as to which antibody finding provides adequate immune protection. Therefore, the detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies should not be a reason to forego an additional vaccination dose.
Should I receive a second partial vaccination after a single vaccination with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine?
Current data from Austria show that vaccination protection after a single administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine can be improved by another dose at least 28 days after the first vaccination date. An mRNA vaccine (BioNTech / Pfizer) or another dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine can be used for this. Individuals who received a COVID-19 vaccination with one dose of Johnson & Johnson and have recovered from COVID-19 may receive a second vaccination dose six to nine months after the primary vaccination.
Which vaccines are used?
For the booster vaccinations, the vaccine from BioNTech / Pfizer is currently used, which has received approval from the European Medicines Agency. The application for approval is also for the vaccine from Moderna.
