A driver without a license sentenced for the death of a high school student on the bypass
A young man to be compared before the criminal court of Avignon (Vaucluse) this Monday for “aggravated manslaughter”, reports
The Dauphiné Libéré. He was 18 years old when, on September 21, 2020, he caused a traffic accident that claimed the life of a young high school student.
On the day of the tragedy, the defendant was driving from his home to the vocational school where he was educated. Two other students were in his Peugeot. In a curve between two exits, on the Avignon bypass, the motorist had lost control of his vehicle. The car was mounted on the slide and had finished its course against the railing of the bridge, reports the regional daily.
No permit
One of the passengers, seriously injured in the accident, had been helicoptered. The other passenger, thrown out of the car in the violence of the shock, had died. The vehicle was in pieces.
At the time of the facts, the driver did not have a driving license. At the stand, he explained that he wanted to avoid a vehicle that was moving in front of him. An explanation that has not been confirmed by the investigation. The court followed the prosecution’s requisitions and sentenced the young man to three years in prison, two of which were suspended. He also receives an obligation to work and to compensate the civil party.
