Marmomac opens its doors: until Saturday the spotlight of the world of marble will all be on Verona, until Saturday a good slice of the Apuan production world will gravitate around the city of Romeo and Juliet. Of the nearly eight hundred companies that will crowd the stands of the Verona fair this morning, about eighty will be those coming from Carrara and Massa, the same number, approximately, of those based in the province of Verona, if the circle is extended to the whole district Apuoversiliese then easily exceeds 100.
A massive presence that can count not only on the quantity, but also on the quality of the companies present on the banks of the Adige as there will be all the biggest ones: from Franchiumberto passing through Red and then again Furrer, Sagevan, Santucci, Gemignani and Vanelli , Gemeg or in the field of Benetti and Gaspari Menotti machines, just to name a few. When it comes to marble, on the other hand, the name Carrara is always an important added value and, not surprisingly, in Verona the pavilion that houses our local companies is always the most appreciated and visited one.
Despite the prestige and numbers of ‘made in Carrara’, however, here the fair is just a thing of the past while Imm, orphan of her most brilliant jewel, is still going through a crisis whose end is not in sight.
“Let’s say first of all that the fact that there are so many Apuan companies in these days in Marmomac is certainly a very positive sign – explains Fabrizio Santucci, head of the stone company of the Italian Confindustria: -. Verona is an important section showcase and the fact that in many have decided to participate certifies how, after a period of difficulty linked to the pandemic, there is a restart, despite all the difficulties of the case, of the entire sector “. However, the idea of a return to an Apuan fair does not seem, at least at the moment, a priority for the lical stone companies. “Right now – continues Santucci – as an industrial association, especially in Carrara, we are focused on other battles”. So Santucci reflects on the possibility of recreating a great exhibition in our territory, obviously focusing on the prestigious international marble of Carrara and the province: “If I look back, on the other hand, I can only think that when we tried to hold a fair here in the city it did not go well, so much so that I have to reflect on the fact that if today only eighty companies will leave from Carrara and Massa to go to Verona, I am not sure that the same number has participated in an exhibition under the Apuan Alps. organizational problems when it comes to hosting so many people, we lack accommodation facilities, from hotels to restaurants, due to the number of visitors that come for such an event “.
Certainly a bitter reflection, but which also reveals a massive dose of realism. “I believe that if today we decided at the level of the Apuo Verosiliese district to completely desert Verona and we would only risk hurting ourselves – underlines the number one of the marble industrialists -. This is the current reality”.
