European Qualifiers for the World Cup: This is how it looks in the groups | European Qualifiers
The European Qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup are about to end, the penultimate round will take place on 8/9. and 10./11. October over the stage.
After the groups have been completed between November 11th and 16th, the ten teams qualified for the World Cup will be there as well as the 12 play-off participants. Here is the current state of affairs.
This is how qualification works
Direct qualification
The ten group winners will qualify for the 2022 World Cup, which will take place in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
Play-offs
For the play-offs from March 24th to 29th, the ten runners-up and the two best group winners of the 2020/21 UEFA Nations League will qualify, who do not qualify for the World Cup directly via the European Qualifiers and were also unable to make the leap into have made the play-offs. These 12 teams contest three play-off paths, each with two semi-finals and one final. The winners of these three ways will qualify for the World Cup.

Group A: Portugal (games: 5, points 13), Serbia (5, 11), Luxembourg (4.6), Republic of Ireland (5, 2), Azerbaijan (5, 1)
9th October: Luxembourg – Serbia, Azerbaijan – Republic of Ireland
12th of October: Serbia – Azerbaijan, Portugal – Luxembourg
- Portugal secured one of the top two places with a win against Luxembourg.
- Ireland can no longer finish first.
- Azerbaijan can no longer achieve any of the first two places.
Group B: Spain (6, 13), Sweden (4, 9), Greece (4.6), Kosovo (5, 4), Georgia (5, 1)
9th October: Sweden – Kosovo, Georgia – Greece
12th of October: Kosovo – Georgia, Sweden – Greece
- None of the first two places can be booked on October 9th.
- Georgia can no longer finish first.
Group C: Italy (6, 14), Switzerland (4, 8), Northern Ireland (4, 5), Bulgaria (5, 5), Lithuania (5, 0)
9th October: Switzerland – Northern Ireland, Lithuania – Bulgaria
12th of October: Bulgaria – Northern Ireland, Lithuania – Switzerland
- None of the first two places can be booked on October 9th.
- Lithuania can no longer finish first.
Group D: France (6, 12), Ukraine (5, 5), Finland (4, 5), Bosnia and Herzegovina (4, 3), Kazakhstan (5, 3)
9th October: Finland – Ukraine, Kazakhstan – Bosnia and Herzegovina
12th of October: Ukraine – Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kazakhstan – Finland
- None of the first two places can be booked on October 9th.
Group E: Belgium (6, 16), Czech Republic (5, 7), Wales (4, 7), Belarus (5, 3), Estonia (4, 1)
8th October: Czech Republic – Wales, Estonia – Belarus
October 11th: Estonia – Wales, Belarus – Czech Republic
- Belgium are sure to have 1st or 2nd place on October 8 if the Czech Republic don’t beat Wales.
- Belarus and Estonia can no longer come first.
Group F: Denmark (6, 18), Scotland (6, 11), Israel (6, 10), Austria (6, 7), Faroe Islands (6, 4), Moldova (6, 1)
9th October: Scotland – Israel, Moldova – Denmark, Faroe Islands – Austria
12th of October: Denmark – Austria, Israel – Moldova, Faroe Islands – Scotland
- Denmark secured first or second place with a win against Moldova on October 9th. If Denmark win both games in October then their man will definitely be qualified.
- Neither the Faroe Islands nor Moldova can get the first.
Group G: Netherlands (6, 13), Norway (6, 13), Turkey (6, 11), Montenegro (6, 8), Latvia (6, 5), Gibraltar (6, 0)
8th October: Turkey – Norway, Gibraltar – Montenegro, Latvia – Netherlands
October 11th: Netherlands – Gibraltar, Norway – Montenegro, Latvia – Turkey
- None of the first two places can be booked on October 8th.
- Gibraltar can no longer finish first or second.
Group H: Croatia (6, 13), Russia (6.13), Slovakia (6.9), Slovenia (6, 7), Malta (6, 4), Cyprus (6, 4)

- None of the first two places can be booked on October 9th.
- Andorra can no longer be first.
- San Marino can no longer finish first or second.
Group J: Germany (6, 15), Armenia (6, 11), Romania (6, 10), North Macedonia (6, 9), Iceland (6, 4), Liechtenstein (6, 1)
8th October: Germany – Romania, Iceland – Armenia, Liechtenstein – North Macedonia

- None of the first two places can be booked on October 8th.
- Liechtenstein can no longer finish first.
Ranking of group winners of the UEFA Nations League (the top two teams that did not qualify for the World Cup go to the play-offs)
