Parking in Paris is 10 times more expensive than in Le Havre.
According to the barometer of Yespark, a French specialist in the rental of long-term parking spaces, the average monthly budget for long-term parking in France has increased by 1.72% this year. Its study of monthly parking lots (between individuals or with social funders) in 20 of the largest cities in France reveals that prices have exploded in some cities and have fallen sharply in others.
The cities with the highest parking prices in 2021 are Paris (on average 115 euros), Nice (97 euros) and Mets (88 euros). Conversely, the cheapest cities are Dijon (33 €), Montpellier (32.5 €) and Le Havre (17 €) in last position. “Numerous medium-sized cities considered to be very attractive with the emergence of new ways of working are multiplying,” said Thibaut Chary, co-founder and president of Yespark.
Angers and Strasbourg saw a price increase of around + 70%. The increase is mainly due to the reduction of residential parking lots decided by the town hall. Indeed, some large cities such as Strasbourg and Bordeaux, hosted by environmentalists, want to reduce the importance of the car in the city center.
Conversely, in some cities like Paris, prices are falling. In 2021, the decrease in long-term parking in the capital was around -2.5%. “It’s historic. The Parisians have abandoned the capital and settled in a large city less than two hours by train, which partly explains this decline, ”Thibaut Chary analyzes. Twelve municipalities experienced lower average long-term parking prices. The largest drop was recorded by Toulouse: -27.3%. The city of Rose is followed by Montpellier (-24.42%) and Le Mans (-22.11%).
By reading this study, we understand that the transhumance to large or medium-sized Parisian cities, which began after the Covid crisis, will affect inflation in the State.
