Long-acting Covid-19 in children rarely exceeds three months
As more and more children in many countries – including Greece – are diagnosed with Covid-19 disease, a new international scientific study has found that the so-called “long Covid-19”, which is characterized by persistent symptoms for months after the patient recovers , almost never lasts more than three months in the case of children.
Symptoms in children and adolescents rarely last more than 12 weeks, unlike in adults they can last for many more months.
The researchers, led by Dr. Petra Zimmermann of the School of Science and Medicine at the Swiss University of Frabargo, evaluated 14 published studies involving a total of almost 19,500 children and published them in the new journal Pediatric Infection Newspaper. also, that the Delta variant does not lead to a more serious disease in children, compared to previous coronavirus strains, as well as that most pediatric cases are mild or asymptomatic.
On the other hand, children and adolescents with pre-existing conditions, such as chronic kidney disease, heart disease, autoimmune diseases or obesity, are 25 times more likely to become seriously ill with coronavirus than their peers without such chronic problems. Another recent study found that severe Covid-19 occurs in 5% of children (one in 20) with underlying conditions, compared with less than 1% in children without chronic disease.
The most common symptoms of long-term Covid-19 in children have been found to be headaches, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, abdominal pain, etc.
