Insect from China destroys mulberries in Athens – Dozens of cutting centers
What does the agronomist, Stratos Doukas, say on OPEN TV’s “ra Hellas” show
Huge is the problem that has been created in the mulberries – mainly of Attica – but also of the whole country – an intense one from China and especially a woodpecker that penetrates into the trunk of the tree and tries to start and dries.
Big problem in Attica
Speaking on OPEN TV’s “Ra Hellas” show, agronomist Stratos Doukas explained that the beehive passed through Italy through Crete and spread everywhere. The camera of the Open Channel was found in Koukaki, where dozens of mulberries have been destroyed. Other cases face problems in Vasilissis Sofias and other neighborhoods of Athens.
As he points out, “the larvae of the insect enter the center and when they are normal they come out strongly from the holes that have been created and are thrown to other centers. Their nutritional system is disrupted and destruction is inevitable. The mulberry goes for total cutting, crushing and burning “.
He also adds that the wood-eater arrived in our country through boxes.
The insect, according to Mr. Doukas, lays about 80 eggs in its lifetime. In Greece it has been observed only in mulberries, however the bibliography states that it has infected other centers.
