Samherji tried to influence the election of the chairman of BÍ
Kjarninn og Stundin completely that Samherja made attempts to influence the election of the chairman of the Icelandic Journalists’ Association in the hope of preventing Sigríði Dögg Auðunsdóttir, the newly elected chairman, from becoming the new chairman of the association. Sigríður says this is “completely uncomfortable”.
Today and yesterday, Kjarninn and Stundin have published information from the digital communications of several Samherji employees who make up the so-called guerrilla unit.
This morning published The core Information about employees, Arna Brydís McClure, Þorbjörn Þórðarson and Páll Steingrímsson, had believed that the presidential election in the Blaðamannafélag was about RÚV planning to take over the association and not against Samherj. The group therefore wanted to try to influence the elections so that Sigríði, who works at RÚV, would not be elected, but Heimir Már Pétursson, who the group saw as a representative of private media.
In statement Sigríður says that the measures described in Kjarnan’s news were intended to prevent a democratic choice of chairman.
“I see this as a serious mistake for the election of a chairman in a professional and trade union that is completely non-living. The actions described there are intended to prevent the democratic selection of the chairman. These are actions that are directed not only against me, but also against my opponent, because I trust myself that he had no idea about this attack on me. Nor would he have agreed with her, as I only know him for being a firm and honest man of principle,” says Sigríður.
The matter is serious and it is intolerable that a company like Samherja is trying to influence the results of the election of the president of the Icelandic Press Association.
Sigríður also says that no group registrations in the association took place in the run-up to the elections, neither at her nor Heimis Más’s instigation. The election campaigns of both of them were low-key, honest and matter-of-fact.
