Futsal out of the League Cup final
The men’s futsal team of Sporting Clube de Portugal lost, this Saturday, to CRC Quinta dos Lombos in the tiebreaker by penalty kicks and was eliminated from the League Cup.
At Pavilhão Multiusos de Gondomar, the Lions reached the final of regular time tied at two balls, but were not happy with the big losses and thus lost the opportunity to play in the final of the competition.
The first half was better for Sporting CP, who opened the scoring in the seventh minute through Anton Sokolov with assistance from Alex Merlim.
Closer to halftime, Alex Merlim played for an opponent to deflect into his own goal, making it 2-0.
In the second half, CRC Quinta dos Lombos managed to reduce and, later, draw, with the 2-2 prevailing at the end of the 40 minutes.
In the penalty shoot-out, the team from the municipality of Cascais was close to confirming the triumph when Erick Mendonça hit the post, but Gonçalo Portugal then defended, evening the scoreboard. However, in the final attempt, Zicky Té failed to score.
Nuno Dias’ team will play again next weekend, hosting Eléctrico FC for the Portuguese Cup.
