Beware of this scam that promises “online work”
With each passing day the number of scams/fraudulent schemes has been increasing. The “decoy” used by fraudsters has led to many falling for the schemes and there are all kinds of stories.
There are people being recruited for a job in Portugal! But be careful… it’s a scam and the victims are already many.
There are already many victims of this scam in Portugal
The Public Ministry warned this Friday of a fraudulent online scheme through which people are recruited to work digitally. This scam, which promises earnings of hundreds of euros a day for small tasks, involves investing your own money.
According to the publication of Attorney General's Office, scam campaigns are underway via communications networks, which involve simulating the hiring of people to provide services online, which are intended to deceive candidate workers, so that they can obtain property benefits .
Criminal agents look for their victims through the dissemination of advertisements on the Internet, namely on social networks. In such advertisements they inform that they are recruiting people for online jobs. Ask for direct contact forms.
Victims are always approached in an individual and personalized way, via WhatsApp messages or, sometimes, Telegram. In this approach, the criminal informs the victim that he has been selected for an online job, which he will be able to do from home, which will earn amounts of a few hundred euros a day. For that purpose you will only have to perform small tasks online. Also through WhatsApp or Telegram messages (and never by personal approach or voice or video call), criminal agents give instructions for carrying out these tasks.
This scam has affected many people in Portugal, including young people at the beginning of their professional careers and unemployed people looking for work.. This type of victims are attracted by promises of high returns with small investments and no risk for the applied capital.
Usually, they do not notice that there is no information on the platform about who owns it and what are the respective contacts (for example, a physical office or telephone numbers are never indicated).
Victims of this scam also do not realize that, although fraudulent platforms seek to imitate other legitimate academic commerce platforms, their non-corresponding domain names, namely including different or additional characters (such as the example already mentioned above, of the domain www .amaon62.com, or even the domain www.aliexpress234.com also related to fraudulent practices of this nature).
