Vinhos de Portugal celebrates ten years with the biggest edition ever at the Jockey Clube do Rio | Brazil
In 2023, Vinhos de Portugal in Brazil, an event organized by the newspapers PÚBLICO, The globe and Economic value, in partnership with ViniPortugal, returns to the Jockey Clube do Rio to celebrate its tenth anniversary. In São Paulo, the chosen place is Shopping JK Iguatemi, one of the most sophisticated in the capital of São Paulo and which was the home of Vinhos de Portugal in the first three years before the pandemic. Registration for producers to participate is open until the 10th of February through ViniPortugal.
“This is going to be the year of the big meetings”, says Simone Duarte, from Without paper, curator of the event. “Over the past nine years, strive to bring together Portuguese oenologists and producers with the Brazilian public in an unusual and unique way and our ten years are the celebration of these great meetings. What we want is to strengthen this emotion in all the activities of the 2023 editions such as the competitions and talk shows that will be even more personal and unforgettable because, after all, wine is not just a drink, it is a way of life.”
As in previous years, the heart of the event will be the tasting room, which usually brings together 80 producers from the north to the south of the country. The special tastings with Portuguese and Brazilian critics are another highlight. Presences already confirmed are the wine master Portuguese-speaking, Dirceu Vianna Junior; the director of PÚBLICO, Manuel Carvalho; the Brazilian critic of Economic value, Jorge Luckithe portuguese critic Luis Lopesan sommelier Cecilia Aldazand the PÚBLICO journalist specializing in gastronomy, Alexandra Prado Coelho.
The model of bringing chefs, artists and presenters to participate in informal “chats” over wine with Portuguese producers will continue. The conversations will always take place in the convivial area with producers and enologists from one of the sponsoring regions of the event.
In 2023, the event begins with a record number of wine institutes and commissions participating: Douro and Porto, Alentejo, Dão, Lisbon, Setúbal Peninsula, in addition to the return of Vinhos Verdes and the debut of the Tagus region. The organizers promise that there will be no shortage of music to celebrate 10 years of Wines of Portugal.
As in previous years, a special supplement on Portuguese wines will be published, co-edited by PÚBLICO and globewith a print run of around 100,000 copies and circulation in newspapers The globe and Economic valuein Rio and São Paulo.
