How much will it cost: S-LINK Projekt publishes the budget
The budget for the S-LINK project was published this afternoon. Depending on the actual dimensions of the new local railway line, the city and state will have to invest a great deal of money. The federal government pays 50 percent.
SALZBURG. The expansion of the local railway line to Hallein, the so-called S-LINK, is likely to cost Salzburg between 1,985 and 2,838 billion euros. Since many influencing factors, such as the exact alignment and length of the tunnel route, have not yet been fixed, this is an estimated cost framework that was determined using reference routes totaling 17 kilometers in length. There WILL be three possible variations.
costing
The project company S-Link published the budget for three possible expansion options today. These look like this:
The cost estimates and unit prices were taken as a basis from comparable reference projects. The federal government has promised to cover 50 percent of the costs. More than two years ago, on December 21, 2020, the city, state and federal government are said to have signed a framework financing agreement. The basic prerequisite for financing is that all parameters such as traffic effectiveness, cost-benefit analysis and environmental compatibility are scrutinized and found to be positive.
“Even before the start of the first construction phase from the local train station to Mirabellplatz, the project company will make a technical recommendation to the political decision-making bodies, coordinated with the affected communities, for the most technically excellent, economical route,” explains S-LINK Managing Director Stefan Knittel.
route selection procedure
A route selection procedure is currently being carried out from the Salzburg local train station to Hallein. In this stadium of the planning process, the best route variant for the route from Salzburg’s local train station to Hallein is determined. Various variants are examined for this purpose. The best is then recommended.
Economica study
The Economica study carried out to review the project was recently presented. This once again underlined the many advantages that the S-LINK could have for the people of Salzburg. In general, it is hoped that there will be significant improvements for the environment, traffic, the economy and the working world, and this at every further step of the project, starting with the first construction project. The essential point here is that the expansion of the local railway should greatly reduce traffic jams in the city of Salzburg through a strong increase in the efficiency of public transport.
