FIFA: Portugal was the country that hired the most in 2022
Portuguese clubs won the highest number of international player signings in 2022, a total of 901, according to a study released this Thursday by FIFA.
The report reports an increase of 11.6% in transfers until 2021, in a total of 20,209 transactions. Portugal was the fifth country that received the most money, 532.6 million euros, and ninth that paid the most, with 160.5 million.
«For the first time, Portuguese clubs carried out more signings than any other association, with a total of 901 during 2022. Brazil, on the other hand, was the one that transferred the most outside the country, with a total of 998», detailed the FIFA study.
From Brazil, it reached 338 players for Portugal, the largest transfer flow between two countries, much higher than the second most voluminous, in the opposite direction (from Portugal to Brazil), in a total of 166.
Portuguese clubs, moreover, are the fourth main exporters, with 677 footballers, just behind Brazilians (998), English (836) and Spaniards (778).
As for toilets, Portugal is the fifth country that received the most money, behind France (681.2 ME), Germany (588.2 ME), Italy (568.6 ME) and England (552.7 ME), despite count on two transfers among the 10 most valuable: that of Darwin Núñez from Benfica to Liverpool for 75 million, – only surpassed by the move of Tchouaméni from Monaco to Real Madrid (80 million) – and of Luis Díaz, who left FC Porto also for Liverpool, for 45 million.
English clubs invest the most, with €2,024.3m spent and six top-10 most expensive transfers.
Italy followed, with 619.7 million euros, and Spain, with 545.1 million euros, while Portugal was in ninth place in this classification, with 160.5 million euros, in a period in which 6,000 million euros were transacted, more 33.5% than in 2021, but still far from the 2019 record (7,350 ME), the last year before the pandemic.
