Usl and Ucs on Remembrance Day, our first duty: to be human
We live in a time when the unreal world of social media seems to be held in greater consideration than the real one. It is a space where there is no memory of the past except “short-term memory”, everything is fast, everything is absorbed and “digested” without a fight. It is therefore essential that Remembrance Day is celebrated every year on January 27th. It is always useful to look the horror of the most ferocious years ever lived in the face and revive their memory, but there must necessarily be something else too, because otherwise the risk is that of remaining concentrated on something that is perceived as external and distant, as if evil was confined to that piece of history. We are well aware that this is not the case, that to be fully human we need to constantly ask ourselves if the seed of evil is also trying to colonize our actions and the context in which we live, which unfortunately is not a context of peace. Being vigilant on this point is essential. They seem strong comparisons and they certainly are, but it is inevitable to question one’s self and find the answers that our time has an almost desperate need. “On January 27, 1945, Soviet troops from the 60th Army were the first to arrive at the Polish city of Auschwitz, discovering the nearby concentration camp and freeing its survivors. The discovery of Auschwitz and the testimonies of the survivors fully revealed the horror of the Nazi genocide to the world for the first time. The hope is that the in-depth knowledge of what has been a beacon for all of us for today and tomorrow and whatever our role in the society we live in will lead us to complete awareness: we have an immense responsibility, which it is that deriving first of all from the human being.
