Film by Albert Serra co-produced by Portugal nominated for the Césars
Dand according to the nominations revealed today by the french academy, ‘Pacifiction – Tourment sur les îles’ is a candidate, among others, for the award for Best Film, Direction, Cinematography and Best Male Performance, for Benoît Magimel.
‘Pacifiction’ is “pure fantasy – it touches the political, touches the contemporary, touches the human and human relations”, said the Catalan director in an interview with the publication Cineuropa, when the film premiered in May 2022 at the Cannes festival.
Shot in French Polynesia, the film was co-produced by France, Spain, Germany and Portugal, by Rosa Filmes, by Joaquim Sapinho, the production company with which Albert Serra also made the films “The Death of Louis XIV” (2016), ‘Roi Soleil ‘ (20198) and ‘Liberté’ (2019).
In this year’s edition of the Césars, the most acclaimed film is the comedy ‘L’Innocent’, by Louis Garrel, with 11 nominations, followed by ‘La nuit du 12’, by Dominik Moll, with ten.
The American director David Fincher will receive a César of Honor.
The Caesars ceremony is scheduled for February 24 in Paris.
