Comites joins the celebrations for Remembrance Day
Comites San Marino joins the international initiatives and celebrations of January 27, Day of Remembrance. This date with a strong symbolic value for humanity was chosen because on the morning of January 27, 1945, the troops of the Red Army liberated the Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz, where the horror of the Nazi genocide was shown to the world.
Between 1933 and 1945 there were about 15-17 million victims of the Nazi madness. People of both sexes and all ages, including 4-6 million Jews, who were deemed by the Nazis to be undesirable or inferior for political or racial reasons.
The reference to the profound meaning of Remembrance Day – declares Alessandro Amadei, president of Comites San Marino – is certainly an opportunity for reflection and a warning to all peoples about the dangers caused by hatred, fanaticism, racism and prejudice . And Remembrance Day is also a way to remember those who opposed the extermination project and who, at the risk of their own lives, saved many other lives and protected the persecuted – continues Amadei.
Even the Republic of San Marino in those terrible years was able to give the world an example of great solidarity, hosting and caring for almost one hundred thousand refugees who were even housed in train tunnels.
