So much wind energy has never been produced in one day
FA new record has been broken in Portugal: so much wind energy has never been produced in a single day as on January 16, announced REN – Redes Energéticas Nacionais, this Tuesday. Production consumed 106.7 gigawatt-hours (GWh).
“On the 16th of January, REN – Redes Energéticas Nacionais recorded a new maximum wind production in a single day, with 106.7 GWh. The previous maximum was November 11, 2022, the day on which wind production consumed 104.2 GWh”, can be read in a statement to which the News by the Minute had access.
Still according to REN data, the Renewable energy production supplied 97% of consumption on January 16, with wind power at 56%.
“Between January 1st and 22nd, renewable production accounted for 89% of national electricity consumption”, notes REN.
In 2022 as a whole, the wind productivity index registered 0.99 (historical average of 1). In 2022, renewable production supplied 49% of consumption, with wind representing 25%, hydroelectric 12%, biomass 7% and photovoltaic 5%.
Also last week, remember, REN disclosed that hydro production in the national network consumes a new maximum of 6,531 megawatts (MW), on the 4th of January, due to rain and consequent increase in the flow of watercourses.
