Pakistan condemns desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden
Pakistan has strongly condemned the heinous act of desecrating the Holy Quran in Sweden, saying the “senseless and provocative Islamophobic act hurts the religious sensibilities of over 1.5 billion Muslims around the world”.
“Such actions are not covered by any legitimate expression of the right to freedom of speech or opinion, which carries responsibilities under international human rights law, such as the duty not to utter hate speech and incite people to violence,” the State Department said. in a statement on Saturday.
“Islam is a religion of peace and Muslims, including in Pakistan, believe in respecting all religions. These principles must be supported by all,” the FO statement said.
Islamabad called on the international community to show joint resolve against Islamophobia, xenophobia, intolerance and incitement to violence on the basis of religion or belief, and work together to promote interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence.
