Transport in Lisbon: let’s be a tourist and try them out
Lisbon is full of tourists all over the place. Just walk through the city streets to see it. Faced with this reality, the question arose: what is it like to be a tourist in the capital and use different means of transport to visit the most emblematic places?
To answer this question decide to go through the experience of being a “tourist” myself, using the available transport to reach the main points of interest in Lisbon and adjacent municipalities.
My trip starts at Humberto Delgado Airport, as if he had just arrived from an international flight. Backpack, water bottle, umbrella and cap (you never know what you will miss the most). I’m ready to go.
Of course the immediate attempt would be to take a taxi or a TVDEin abundance outside the airport. But not. To get to the center of Lisbon (the first destination I chose) I want to take the pulse of the city’s public transport network. That’s why I’m going from Metropolitan.
First transport: metro
Buy a ticket worth €1.65 and take the red line which takes me to the Alameda station, with eight stops in between. there change to the green line with the destination Cais do Sodré, although I leave two seasons earlier, precisely in Rossio.
For starters, not bad. THE subway it’s fast, comfortable and the existing signage easily guides me to where I want to drive. Once on the street, I appreciate the overwhelming beauty of our capital, which often goes unnoticed by those who live “here”.
Take a short walk and Try the codfish pastry with Serra cheese, accompanied by a port. Something for tourists, some will say. And I share the opinion, which means that I could not have chosen a better place to integrate this “persona” of mine.
Riding the tram is a magical experience.
Once down, it is mandatory to take a tram from Rails to visit the Castle of São Jorge and contemplate the city from above. I then go a little further down Rua Augusta and on the first perpendicular, Rua da Conceição, I take the 28E which for €3 (onboard fare) takes me to the Miradouro de Santa Luzia, passing by the Cathedral.
It was a trip short but still remarkable, for the magic that these classic classics convey, the subject of so many photographs and forms of artistic expression. As this area is located, I decide to venture out to visit another municipality. I’ve been at this for a few hours now and the hunger is back. It’s time to head to Sintra for a pillow!
I took the bus and then the train to Sintra
in the castle I take the bus 737 and I buy a ticket for €2 (onboard fare) to go to Praça da Figueira, from where you can walk to the beautiful Rossio station. Then I buy the CP ticket for 2.30€ and I enter the train that takes me about 40 minutes precisely to Sintra.
The round trip was compatible trips. The trains are comfortable and when I used them they weren’t too crowded.. It was well worth visiting village of Sintra and its palaces, as there is much to discover there, in addition to the fact that the pillow was still warm from eating and crying for more.
I still rode a scooter and a bicycle
Back in the center of the capital, still in my role as a foreign tourist, I can’t help but try a shared scooter and bike. I start with the scooterfor which I pay less than 30 cents per minute of use.
Sometimes on a bike path, sometimes not, in an instant I reach the Mercado da Ribeira area, but the truth is that walk without a helmet (I remember that he arrived in Lisbon with only a backpack on his back) on such a fragile object and sometimes so close to cars and buses, I don’t like it.
Still, it is important to point out that the Lisbon’s cycle path network is already very extensive and that the way in which scooters are used greatly facilitates short journeys. The same goes for the Gira bikesthe last means of transport that I will use on this adventure.
For only €2 (daily pass value) unlock a bike that I use comfortably on a commute what do I take to get to the Xabregas area. Meanwhile, it’s almost dinner time and a “friend” told me that you can see beautiful cod there.
