Turkish Medical Association Family Medicine Branch and Istanbul Medical Chamber Family Physicians Commission warned that measles cases have started in Istanbul. Physicians urged families to complete infant and European vaccinations.
Measles (and rubella) are among the enclosures targeted by the World Health Organization (WHO). For this, suspicious cases must be taken away, suspicions must be correct and the spread of circulating viruses must be checked by genotyping. WHO in Turkey ‘Measles Elimination Program’ Within the scope of health, it is followed by laboratory tests. He’s obviously keeping his features to himself.
It spreads very easily
Measles is being watched over the world. Because it spreads very easily. It is most common in winter and spring. This increases the risk of transmission in school-age children. It can make many children sick at the same time. The measles virus is airborne and contaminates the respiratory tract. Scans such as pneumonia, middle ear and brain intelligence are preparing the ground. It is a disease for babies who are too young to be vaccinated, children who are not vaccinated and undernourished, pregnant women and those whose consumption system is suppressed. There is no specific birth therapy. The vaccine saves the lives of Europeans. Measles can occur in adults and can have serious consequences.
Istanbul Medical Chamber Board Member, family physician Dr. Saffet Ercan said that he received information from the field that he saw measles cases in some districts. Ercan, who is responsible for the transparency of the Ministry of Health, “BSee you as soon as possible, we expect an enlightening explanation” said.
Ercan said that the diagnosis can be made by looking at the blood samples taken from the data thought to be measles.: “I am a family doctor in Küçükçekmece. Measles is common in the surrounding counties. E-mails were sent from the district health directorates to the friends there. They were asked to be careful when measles was seen, to be careful and to be informed about the adventurous situation. Doctors in our district have not received these e-mails yet. However, it contains information. There are very strong signs of measles appearing. As the medical chamber and family physicians, we say what needs to be done to take precautions before it turns into a major public health problem. Transparency is essential.”
Unvaccinated infants and children at high risk
Turhan Karakaş, Head of the Istanbul Medical Chamber Family Physicians Commission, emphasized that the health directorate is trying to carry out educational studies and compulsions, “There is correspondence, there are sensations. Our main problem is that there is no information about measles cases. When we ask, no explanation is given.” he said.
Özden Güngör from the TTB Family Medicine Branch said that they could not confirm the case reports from Kartal, Pendik regions, but because there was no official statement. Güngör said that transparent sharing of cases is important for early diagnosis and isolation. “Unvaccinated babies, children are at higher risk. Unfortunately, there are rates of vaccine rejection that are not at all low. If there is an epidemic, we should be aware that the most forwarded families are asked, we can explain this and get them vaccinated. Not knowing makes the house live” said.
It is important that European vaccinations are complete so that measles cases do not turn into receivables. Vaccinations are given free of charge at family health centers. Measles vaccines are administered as a triple vaccine as measles + rubella + mumps and have 95-98 percent protection.
Continuation of measles epidemic since 2011
Estimates of measles cases in Turkey did not exceed 10 between 2007 and 2010. From 2006, when measles (and rubella) laboratory surveillance was available, no domestic measles cases were detected until the end of 2010. In 2008, an Iraqi student and three health workers were diagnosed with measles in Ankara. In 2009, there were three measles cases among Afghan refugees in Istanbul. In 2010, seven imported cases of measles (from abroad prior to illness) were detected. Continuing the measles epidemic from 2011.
There have been deaths from measles.
However, after 2011, cases started to emerge especially from Istanbul and spread throughout the country. As of March 2018, the number of cases among foreign and Turkish nationals in official provinces draws attention. There were 714 laboratory-confirmed measles cases in 2018, 2,403 in 2019 and 610 in 2020. Two people died from measles in 2018, five in 2019, and two in 2020. While the rate of getting the first dose of the vaccine is 96 percent, the rate decreases to 86-87 percent in the second doses.
There is a follow-up network consisting of seven provincial public health laboratories (Adana, Antalya, Diyarbakir, Erzurum, Istanbul, Izmir, Samsun). Samples from each case progressing with fever and experiments are sent to these relevant laboratories to be tested. The national laboratory works in harmony with the European Regional Reference Laboratory in Luxembourg, which is under the General Directorate of Public Health in Ankara.
Vaccination at school is very important
The risk of infection increases in school-age children who usually see the winter and spring gardens. For this reason, measles vaccination during the school period is very important in terms of trunk immunity. It is vital to vaccinate against this situation, which has widespread and serious risks all over the world. After the vaccine became popular, a 95 percent reduction in child visual weight was achieved.
