Malta welcomed around 174,460 tourists last November, as official statistics continue to confirm that its tourism industry is recovering – although not yet fully – after the blow given by Covid-19.
According to figures from the National Statistics Office, the number represents an increase of 37% compared to the 127,183 incoming tourists reported in November 2021, even if it falls short of the 191,110 tourists received in November 2019, before the advent of a disruptive pandemic. travel around the world.
While the vast majority (144,631) visited Malta for holiday purposes, it is estimated that 23,615 tourists visited for business reasons and 6,214 for other reasons including health or education. In keeping with past trends, males outnumbered females by 89,879 to 84,581.
But while the number of tourists is still below pre-pandemic levels, there has nevertheless been a strong increase in visitors from outside the EU. While 29,285 visitors had arrived in Malta from outside the EU in November 2019, this number almost doubled to 54,556 last November, and when considering the figures for January to November, the number of travelers is not -EU increased from 427,621 in 2019 to a record of 648,471. last year.
It is estimated that 2,193,897 tourists visited Malta in the first 11 months of 2021, after two years in which Malta welcomed less than a million tourists.
