Copper cable: From waste to valuable raw material
Short transport routes as the key
Even if half of the demand in Europe and Switzerland can now be covered by recycled copper, the long transport routes are still a major challenge. The cables are collected from the construction sites and sent abroad for processing. Here, ELREC AG has another trump card up its sleeve: its cable pelletizing system impressively combines the necessary work steps directly on site. This saves thousands of kilometers of truck journeys per year and, if possible, the train is used for transport. The entire logistics are digitally calculated and optimized in the background so that as few kilometers as possible are driven.
Measurable regional added value
In addition to the tangible ecological benefits, regional processing also has an impact on local value creation. The raw material cycle takes place to a large extent in the immediate vicinity and at the same time attractive jobs are created in the craft sector.
A plant of this magnitude develops its full potential when it is used to full capacity for as long as possible. ELREC AG buys all cables in order to keep ecological and economic efficiency at a high level and guarantees fair prices in line with the market. “Ultimately, shredding in the region should be financially worthwhile for companies in the catchment area,” adds Manuel Elkuch, Managing Director of ELREC AG.
