Marin goes to Davos when new defense minister visits Sweden and Estonia | News
Prime Minister Sanna Marin (SDP) will participate for the second time in the WEF conference in Switzerland, together with three other ministers.
Monday marks the start of a busy travel week for Finnish ministers, with four attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, and others visiting Sweden, Estonia, Romania, Moldova and the United Arab Emirates.
Prime Minister True Marine (SDP) leads a delegation to the Davos conference on Tuesday, where she will participate in a panel on Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine and the situation in Europe with the President of the European Council Charles Michel among others.
On Tuesday afternoon, the prime minister will be in the spotlight during an event called “A Conversation with Sanna Marin,” hosted by the CNN reporter Fareed Zakaria.
According to her office, Marin will also speak at a corporate event and hold talks with various political and business leaders.
Others speaking at the annual WEF meeting include the presidents of South Korea, Poland, Lithuania, Switzerland and North Macedonia and the prime ministers of Germany, Spain, Belgium, Morocco, as well as the president of the European Union. Marin previously participated in the Davos Forum 2020. This year she will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto (Green), Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Wanted Skinnari and Minister of Communications Timo Harakka – the last two ministers from Marin’s SDP.
Savola to Stockholm and Tallinn
Skinnari will arrive in Switzerland from the United Arab Emirates, where he is participating in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week on Monday. Abu Dhabi is hosting the next UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) starting at the end of November.
Also on Monday, Minister of Defence Mikko Savola (Cen) will make his first official visits to the neighboring countries of Sweden and Estonia since he took office at the beginning of January. Savola will meet his Swedish counterpart Pål Jonson in the morning before the afternoon conversation with the Minister of Defense of Estonia Hanno Pevkur.
The ministers’ talks are expected to focus on regional security, support for Ukraine and the two Nordic countries’ bids for membership in NATO.
Savola is temporary defense minister and replaces his party colleague Antti Kaikkonenwho is on paternity leave.
At the same time Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Governance Tytti Tuppurainen (SDP) goes to Romania for a two-day visit on Monday and moves on to Moldova on Wednesday.
Marin’s centre-left cabinet is entering its final weeks before parliamentary elections on 2 April.
