defeat in Verona but qualification for the central Final Eight
There Germani Brescia cue in Verona, but still wins the pass for Turin. Brescia closes the first round without the acute that everyone hoped for, or a success on the field Tezenis, but still in eighth place, the last useful position to play in the finals of the Italian Cup in Turin, scheduled from 15 to 19 February. A deserved victory for a Scaligera who took the field with a knife between her teeth, capable of capitalizing on Anderson’s 18 points and Smith’s 16 and conquering the final victory with a score of 81-77. Too many ups and downs, however, for Germani, who in the final is unable to place the winning paw that would have prevented her from collecting the eighth defeat in the championship, fortunately not decisive for the purposes of the pass for Turin.
A far cry from the version seen last Tuesday against Badalona, despite an effective Gabriel (20 points) on both sides of the pitch, Brescia pays its dues to a defense that is not always concentrated, unable to stop the flurries of the hosts, who shoot with percentages that cannot call the white-blue defense in the dock. And so while the escape attempts made by Germani always last too little, the one made by Tezenis in a finale played in crescendo allows the Venetians to reach the finish line first. Too bad, above all because the large group of white and blue fans present in the stands of the AGSM Forum deserved a different ending.
With an entire second round to go through, in which more continuity in terms of play and results will certainly be needed, Brescia plunges back into the 7DAYS EuroCup, which on Wednesday evening will bring the blue and whites to Riga, where the Ukrainians of Prometey play. For the Italian Cup finals, however, the opponent will be the most difficult: in fact, in the quarter-final match, the team led by coach Magro will face the winter champions of EA7 Emporio Armani Milano, current holders of the Italian Cup . A difficult pairing, but, given the performance and the final score achieved at the AGSM Forum, perhaps the best result that Brescia could win at the halfway point of the championship (pallacanestrobrescia.it).
