Taiwanese sports shooter Wu Chia-ying silver at the ISSF Grand Prix 10m in Slovenia
Taipei, Jan. 14 (CNA) Taiwan’s sports shooter Wu Chia-ying (吳佳穎) won the silver medal for Taiwan at the ISSF 10m Grand Prix in Ruše, Slovenia, after being edged out by Hungary in the women’s air pistol gold medal match. Veronika Major. Friday.
Competing for Taiwan under “Chinese Taipei”, Wu competed at the Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro Olympics, scoring a total of 13 and had to settle for silver as Major won gold in the event with a score of 17.
Wu said the silver medal at the first tournament of the season was still a good start to the year, as she now has a total of three silver and three bronze medals in her career in both the individual and team shooting events.
During the final match, Wu found herself tied with Major after the first five shots, but then fell behind in the next five shots, giving the Hungarian an advantage.
From there, Wu made the next four throws to cut the deficit to just 2 points. However, Wu failed to overcome her opponent in the last shot and lost the match.
Earlier in the day, Wu scored 251.1 to take first place in the classification match, while Major trailed with 246.2 as they qualified for the gold medal match.
Wu and Major also previously competed against each other at the 2019 ISSF World Championships in New Delhi, where Major bagged the women’s 10m air pistol gold medal and Wu the silver medal.
The 2023 ISSF Grand Prix 10m in Ruše, Slovenia takes place from January 11 to 15.
