Motorists from BGL race through Salzburg at 131km/h
A 33-year-old driver from the Berchtesgaden region faces a penalty: he was caught speeding through the city of Salzburg at over 130 km/h. This could also have consequences in Germany.
The 33-year-old had the misfortune – fitting for the “unlucky day” Friday the 13th – to drive twice in quick succession into radar controls that the police carried out at night in the Salzburg region and in the city of Salzburg. Assuming police information, the 33-year-old was initially measured at a maximum speed of 50 km/h at 131 km/h. Just a few minutes later, the vehicle was measured at a speed of 65 km/h on the Innsbruck federal road out of town at a permitted speed of 50 km/h.
High fine threatened
The driver from the Berchtesgadener Land was stopped by the police. His driver’s license was provisionally confiscated and reported. When asked by PNP, a spokeswoman for the Salzburg state police explained what punishment the 33-year-old now faces in Austria: “In this specific case, the driver has his driver’s license revoked and he is not allowed to drive a vehicle in Austria for several months.” Fine between 300 and 5000 euros.
Does driving license withdrawal in Austria also apply in Germany?
But does the driving ban in Austria also mean that the man from the Berchtesgadener Land will also be banned from driving in Germany? That would be possible, as a spokesman for the Freilassing police near the border explains. However, that would not happen automatically. “If a German driver’s license is revoked abroad, that doesn’t mean that it has also been revoked here.”
First, the authority that issued the driver’s license receives a message from the foreign police station about the facts. The authority can then determine the character suitability of the driver and can also collect the driving license in Germany on a case-by-case basis. It remains to be seen whether this will be the case for the 33-year-old from Berchtesgadener Land.
