youA point of no return seems to have been reached between the town hall of Paris and electric scooters. As the report The Expressthe municipality of the capital has been studying for several weeks the option of chasing this means of transport out of its territory.
The deputy for mobility and roads, David Belliard and the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, will propose the non-renewal of the contract due to poor security for users, as evidenced by the accumulation of accidents in the streets of the capital. A vote on this subject will soon be held at the next Council of Paris.
“The operators have not shown us the environmental interest of the service and the real cost / benefit balance for Parisians”, points the finger at David Belliard’s entourage to our colleagues.

Significant increase in fines
Another point of contention, the risks generated by electric scooter users, which are frequently used by two people. According to figures reported by The Express337 accidents involving a motorized personal transport engine were recorded in the first eight months of 2022. These accidents resulted in one death and 373 injuries (+ 38.52% compared to the same period in 2021) including 278 victims among users of these machines (+ 39.70%).

In the sights of the police, the fines attributed to practitioners have also increased significantly, going from 480 in the first eight months of 2021 to 2,019 over the same period in 2022 (+ 320%).
While the end of Tier, Dott and Lime’s license, the three electric scooter operators authorized to occupy the Parisian public space, to end on March 23, 2023, 800 employees would be sidelined in the event of non-renewal of the contract by the town hall of Paris. But the municipality would then turn to a juicy jackpot. According to our colleagues, she has collected a little more than a million euros each year since the arrival of electric scooters in Paris.
