OLD PARPARO
It is one of the best known and most popular malga restaurant. Easy to reach, it is located in Rovere Veronese, in the heart of Lessinia, at an altitude of 1406 metres. The warmth of the interiors is typical of the mountains and the dishes reflect tradition. Excellent for tasting traditional dishes such as Gnocchi Sbatui with Fioretta, pappardelle with wild boar and sbrisolona with grappa jelly. Highly recommended for an aperitif with a panoramic view and a relaxing break, it is also the starting point for a walk through pastures and alpine pastures, woods and uncontaminated forests.
MALGA MALERA
It is located in San Giorgio di Bosco Chiesanuova immersed in the Lessinia Regional Natural Park where silence and tranquility reign supreme. After a very simple walk, you will reach this hut and, upon your arrival, the delicious Gnocchi di Malga will be waiting for you. Once you cross the threshold of the refuge you will be enveloped in the scent of hot butter, smoked ricotta, stew with polenta that cooks slowly on the wood stove. After-meal delicacies: soft tarts, warm bundles of homemade jam, and the ‘sbriciolina’ cake. From up here you can enjoy a splendid panorama in a large outdoor area with benches and tables.
CUNECO REFUGE
Cuneck is a tiny characteristic district of Alta Lessinia. It is located in Camposilvano, a hamlet of Velo Veronese, in the heart of the Lessinia Natural Park. They are places that evoke a peasant past rich in traditions and culture of the Cimbrian population, who have inhabited these mountains for centuries. Here you will find a tasty genuine cuisine, the gastronomic tradition of Lessinia is combined with the flavors of the alpine hut. The seasonal menu includes typical dishes made with garden produce that give life to special recipes, simple reinterpretations of the dishes of the past. Try the lasagnette with meat sauce, the tripe, the vegetable creams, the homemade tortelli with truffles, the canederli, the malga gnocchi, the traditional very soft tagliata, the white Vicenza-style cod with milk, and finally sweet strudel and homemade panna cotta, cheesecake and chocolate salami.
DARD REFUGE
The Dardo at 1385 meters. it is a small corner of paradise where you can taste the typical dishes and flavors of Lessinia. Here colors, scents and silences mix, giving visitors a breathtaking view. Ideal place for walks and snowshoeing in the snow.
At the Refuge you can taste: malga gnocchi, ricotta and spinach dumplings, lasagnette with mushroom or truffle ragout, Lessinia cheeses and cured meats, delicious homemade desserts.
CASTELBERTO REFUGE
Open in summer and winter, a faithful reconstruction of a former barracks from the First World War, it is in the Parco della Lessinia in Castelberto in the municipality of Erbezzo at 1765 metres. The panorama from the refuge is stupendous: the view extends from the Val d’Adige and the underlying Val dei Ronchi, to the nearby peaks of Pasubio and Carega. All of Lessinia is visible, Valpolicella and Lake Garda towards Sirmione. To the west, the typical setting of Monte Baldo, the Altissimo, the less nearby peaks of the Adamello, with the Carè Alto and the Presanella. To the north, the unmistakable silhouettes of the Brenta, Bondone and Paganella Dolomites. The vision ranges 360 degrees. Andrea offers a delicious choice of stube room specialties with typical dishes of Alta Lessinia: cold cuts and local cheeses, Cimbri gnocchi, canederli, tagliatelle, cereal soups, minestrone, white and red meats, polenta and stew, polenta and mushrooms, salted meat, colt steaks and lots of vegetables. A not negligible detail concerns the dessert: the sweets are all handmade. Among these, the buckwheat cake, the ricotta and chocolate or ricotta and lemon cake and the fruit tart are truly excellent. There are places available in the outdoor area for quick stops.
MONTE TORLA ALPINE REFUGE
An ancient Malga with cheese factory located on the edge of eastern Lessinia, along the Via Vicentina. The kitchen offers typical dishes such as “Sbatui” gnocchi from Malga, dumplings, tagliolini with wild boar, roe deer, deer, soups and a particularity: tagliolini with Shiitake mushrooms from the nearby Fungaia della Lobbia. And then game stew, Cimbro platter.
MALGA LESSINIA
Located in Erbezzo in Alta Lessinia at an altitude of 1616 meters. Reachable on foot during the winter season, it offers a dining room and a bar heated by a huge fireplace. After a walk in the snow, let yourself be pampered by the warmth of the refuge and don’t miss the soups of the day and the typical carne salà!
REFUGE BEFORE SNOW
It is the highest of the Lessinia regional natural park at 1766 meters high, it is located on the top of Monte Tomba near the tourist resort Malga San Giorgio in the municipality of Bosco Chiesanuova. Just 45 minutes from Verona, it can only be reached on foot in winter. Between a beautiful panorama and traditional cuisine, enjoy an appetizing lunch with family and friends.
REFUGE LAUSEN
A breathtaking panorama of the gentle green mountains of Lessinia is what appears once you reach the Lausen, the historic malga of Lessinia. The Rifugio Lausen (which in Cimbrian means “House of oxen”) has been renovated respecting its ancient origins. Located at 1220m, it is an enchanting place a few km north of Velo Veronese, where the view extends from the Po valley to the Apennines to the east, beyond the Euganean hills, it is not uncommon to be able to see Venice and behind it, Monte Carega predominates with its 2,259 meters high. It can be reached by car, but there are numerous walks that lead to Lausen passing through the Valley of the Sphinxes. MALGA MOSCARDA
In the locality of Moscarda in Bosco Chiesanuova, at an altitude of 1497 metres. Superb landscape and excellent for a lunch or dinner with gnocchi, speck and broth.
