In 2022, Lisbon, Porto and Braga were the best cities for startups in Portugal. Lisbon has the best position in the country, which in turn is among the top thirty countries, according to a new study.
The study in question is called Global Startup Ecosystem Map and was published by hellosafe Portugal, from a Startup Blink database. In 2022, Portugal ranked 16th among the best countries in Europe for startups and 28th in the world.

The study also advances that seven Portuguese cities are part of the thousand best in the world for startups, and although almost all have lost their position in this year’s ranking, Lisbon is, with a large margin of points, the best positioned city in Portugal.
The second ranked Portuguese city is Porto, in 136th place, where the startup market is more focused on E-commerce and tab. In 3rd place at national level, Braga, occupies today the 432nd position. Coimbra rose 56 places in 2022 and is now in 441st place and closes the list, Funchal, in 949th position, close to Leiria, which joined the list this year.

With regard to European cities, stay with the cities of San Francisco, New York and London, and in the classification among European cities, Lisbon occupies the 17th position, still remaining many points behind other European capitals such as Berlin, Madrid and Paris . Rome, on the other hand, does not appear among the top 20 rankings.

The study also says that Portugal has the potential to become one of the first economies in Europe and that one of the markets that has most developed in the country is the startup sector focused on marketing and sales. Lisbon is the great example of this. According to the StartupBlink Global Startup Ecosystem Map, there are currently around 332 startups in Portugal, 5 accelerators, 37 coworking spaces, 9 organizations and 2 leaders.
With regard to the world ranking, despite having lost a position compared to last year, Portugal is still very well positioned in the world and occupies the 28th place, ahead of countries like the United Arab Emirates, Brazil and Taiwan.
