Casa Pia reaches historic milestone in the Portuguese Cup by beating V. Setúbal
Casa Pia wins in Setúbal and occupies the last place in the “quarters” of the Portuguese Cup. I had never reached this stage before.
Casa Pia, from the I Liga, secured, this Thursday, the passage to the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup, by beating Vitória de Setúbal, from Liga 3, at the Bonfim stadium, by 1-0.
Despite having reached the goal after just three minutes, through Yan Eketi, the geese had to apply themselves against the people from Setúbal to occupy the last available spot for the next phase of the competition.
There were still some spectators taking their place in the stadium and Casa Pia was already celebrating the goal that opened the scoring. Cameroonian midfielder Yan Eketi shot from the front and benefited from a deflection by the Sadino defender Pedro Machado, who ended up betraying goalkeeper Leonardo Ferreira.
Although the Sadinos tried to resist the goal conceded, every time they went to the opposite area they were unsuccessful. The Casapians did not find it difficult during this period to control operations.
In the second half, coach Luís Loureiro launched the experienced striker Zequinha in the game and Vitória grew and just didn’t reach the tie due to a pair of interventions by Ricardo Batista, in the 64th minute and 68th minute, with shots by Rodrigo Pereira and Zequinha, respectively.
Until the end, Casa Pia waited to hold on to the advantage in a game in which goalkeeper Ricardo Batista, a native of Setúbal, was expelled after the final whistle for having made provocative gestures towards the Sadinos in the stands.
In the quarter-finals of the competition, a stage in which it reaches for the first time, Casa Pia will receive on February 8th, Nacional, the club that eliminated Rabo de Peixe (1-0).
