Goalkeeper Giorgi Makaridze returns to Portugal to represent Marítimo
“Makaridze is a player for Marítimo. The international for Georgia committed itself to the largest of the islands on this return to Portugal”, can be read in the communiqué of the ‘rubro greens’ on their official website on the Internet.
The seventh reinforcement secured by the ‘verde rubros’ since last November, the second for goal, after Marcelo Carné, arrives in Madeira after contractual termination with Ponferradina – at whose service he played seven official matches in the Spanish second division – a team that José Gomes represented before succeeding João Henriques in the maritime technical command.
At Marítimo, the Georgian goalkeeper and the coach from Matosinhos will work together for the fourth time in their careers. First with the colors of Rio Ave in the 2018/19 season, followed by Almería in the 2020/21 season and, in the current campaign, Ponferradina, both in the Spanish second tier.
In Portugal, the 32-year-old athlete also played for Moreirense and Vitória de Setúbal, in the I Liga, and also for Feirense in the II Liga, having played a total of 147 official games.
Makaridze also joins the reinforcement Marcelo Carné and Miguel Silva in the group of options of the Madeirans for the goal.
In addition to the two goalkeepers, Marítimo also signed forwards Léo Pereira and Brayan Riascos, midfielder Val Soares and defenders Paulinho and René Santos.
In the opposite direction, four athletes left the island club: striker Joel Tagueu on loan, Joel Soñora, Miguel Sousa and Clésio Baúque, after contract termination.
After 15 rounds, Marítimo remains in 17th and penultimate place in the I Liga, with 10 points, two behind Gil Vicente, 16th, and three behind Santa Clara, the first team above the relegation zone.
