Innovations in the city of Salzburg: That will change in 2023 when it comes to waste disposal
The year 2023 will bring innovations in waste disposal. Metal packaging is now also allowed in the yellow sack.
SALZBURG. Changes to the yellow sack, digitization, a new recycling center and a separation campaign: this is new in the city in 2023.
Packaging in a yellow sack
By 2023, the collection of metal and plastic packaging will be unified. “It’s not just the plastic that goes in the yellow sack or the yellow bin, but also yoghurt pots, crisp bags and cans,” explains Deputy Mayor Bernhard Auinger. According to waste service manager Jürgen Wulff-Gegenbaur, this lightweight packaging is not only made of plastic, but can also be made of wood or metal.
Campaign aims to educate
The conversion of the “yellow collection” is used to draw attention to correct waste separation with a campaign. Posters and notices for property managers explain the instructions for correct separation.

website provides information
You can find out when the garbage collection is due with the new digital garbage calendar on the City of Salzburg’s website. The digital waste advisor “Mülli” should help to separate waste properly. With a “waste fee checker” you can calculate whether you could still save something with the garbage.

Recycling yard is finished
The Maxglan recycling center will reopen in February 2023. “The recycling center will again be the first address in the city of Salzburg when it comes to separate collection and professional disposal in the city,” said Auinger happily.
