Attention Portugal: we are paying a lot for the Internet!
This is a question that usually comes up whenever you talk. This is because some consider that prices are even acceptable compared to what is happening in the rest of Europe and the World. However, if we look at the data that compares the Internet prices that we have at home, we are actually paying a lot, compared to what is happening in most European countries. Looking in fact at the data provided by the company cable.co.uk quickly evolved that the situation in our country is not exactly pretty. So the conclusion seems to be that we are paying a lot for the Internet in Portugal.
Attention Portugal: we are paying a lot for the Internet!
The map above shows data for 2022 and compares Internet prices at home.
But after all, what is the situation of Portugal vis-à-vis other countries?
now the company cable.co.uk after comparing operators from all countries, it came to the conclusion that in Portugal the average price for Internet at home is 35 Euros. It may indeed not seem like much to many people, but if we compare this value with that of other countries, it actually is.
Right next door, in Spain, the average price is cheaper. So it goes to 32 Euros. It’s not a bargain but it’s more acceptable, especially considering that the minimum wage is higher than in Portugal.
In the case of France everything is still cheaper, which for some is a surprise. This is because the cost of living is not exactly cheap. So the average price to have Internet at home is 26 Euros. And in this article I’m not even talking about access speeds because there the differences would be even greater. In France we pay 26 Euros but we have access to a speed of 2 GB/s.
If we move to Italy, we face that it is even cheaper to have Internet at home. So we pay about 25 Euros per month.
In the case of Germany we also have an Internet access cost of around 25 Euros.
Meanwhile in other countries like Hungary we have prices around 13 Euros. Very similar situation in Poland and other similar countries.
As a curiosity, in Russia the average Internet price is 7 Euros.
To find values above Portugal in Europe, we have to look at Switzerland, Austria and Holland.
In the case of Switzerland the price is 58 Euros. Still, we have to take other factors into consideration. We must not forget that in this country the minimum wage is around 2256 Euros.
In other words, looking at the general panorama, we quickly conclude that we are paying too much for Internet in Portugal.
The Most Expensive Internet in the World
Despite the fact that in Portugal the Internet is expensive, it is true that there are glaring cases in the world. Cases of nuns over the Internet are very expensive and others because they are cheaper.
In Burundi, for example, Internet access costs 399 Euros per month!
In Sierra Leone the price is 297 Euros. On the other hand in Brunei it is 240 Euros.
The cheapest internet in the world
The country where the Internet is cheapest is Syria. In fact, it costs about 1 Euro per month. Next we have Sudan where you pay 3 Euros. But in this country we have to bear in mind that the Internet practically only exists in the most urban areas. Also the service is very slow. In this country only a third of the population is online. In Belarus and Ukraine the price is the same. That is, about 6 Euros. Then we have Russia with those 7 Euros.
Also consider that we are paying a lot for the Internet in Portugal or compared to other countries, is the price even acceptable?
