conspiracy theory debunkedNo, Satan’s throne is not in Geneva
Videos have recently appeared on social media in which Satan’s throne is located in Geneva. But that’s nonsense: Those responsible have been taken in by a Wikipedia troll.

That’s what it’s about

According to a conspiracy theory, Satan’s throne is in Geneva.
-
But the claim spread on social media is false.
-
The fact that it is currently circulating is due to a troll who changed a Wikipedia entry.
-
It is correct: According to the Bible, the throne of Satan is located in present-day Turkey.
“Did you know that the Bible reveals where Satan’s city is located?” So begins one of the tiktok videos, which deal with the whereabouts of the devil. A few English-language clips are currently dealing with the topic (here or here). On too slut there are such. The platform is primarily used by people who have been blocked on YouTube and other established channels. Geneva is named as the whereabouts in all videos. However, the video creators are wrong.
The claim
The users, whose wording is almost identical, base their – false – claim on a passage from the Bible: the Revelation of John 2:13. There it says: «I know where you live: where Satan’s throne is; and you hold fast to my name, and did not deny my faith even in the days when Antipas, my faithful witness, was killed among you, where Satan dwells.”
According to the authors of the videos, if you Google the place of killing, you can find out on the English-language Wikipedia page that «Antipas was sacrificed during the reign of Nero by being burned in the bull-shaped bronze altar in the Temple of Apollyon in Lyon/Geneva » . The video creators don’t question that: Geneva is probably fitting in their belief. Eventually you will find yourself there, “an organization called Cern, the plant that opens the portal to the underworld,” as a Tiktok video puts it. It’s one of several conspiracies involving the research institute. The fact that Geneva and Lyon are two different cities more than 100 kilometers apart doesn’t seem to bother anyone.
On Bitchute, a user explains: “If I were Satan and wanted to rule the world, of course I would bring all the organizations in the world to where I am.” He gives examples such as WHO, UN and WEF, which are mentioned in connection with conspiracy theories. None of the videos provide real arguments for the claim.
Turkey, no Switzerland
That is not even possible, because Satan’s throne is not in Switzerland. The video creators are only right in that the Bible names the place of Antipas’ death: “Pergamum, so it says in verse 12”, says Dan McClellan, theologian and Bible translator for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in a YouTube clip. «From the text of the Revelation of John 2 it is clear that Antipas was killed in Pergamum», he explains in another video. That is explicitly stated in the text. A look at the Bible confirms McClellan’s statement. Pergamon (today: Bergama) was an ancient Greek city near the west coast of Asia Minor in modern-day Turkey, about 80 km north of Smyrna.
The fact that the propagators of the false claim found other information on the Internet is solely due to a troll who changed the Wikipedia entry “to spread this idiotic conspiracy theory”. Indeed Wikipedia points out on the relevant page under “Show history” to “persistent vandalism in connection with Pergamon and Geneva”. According to McClellan, there has never been a “Temple of Apollyon” either in Geneva or anywhere else.
Not the first false claim about Satan’s throne
It is not the first time that Satan’s throne has been wrongly located elsewhere: In the summer of 2020, the former vegan chef and right-wing extremist Corona denier Attila Hildmann, following a conspiracy tale, claimed that the center of global Satanism lay in the Berlin Pergamon Museum, where the Pergamon Altar is located. “In this museum is the throne of Satan,” quoted Reflab.ch from a Telegram video published by Hildmann at the time. At night child sacrifices would be made there. “That was already done in ancient times.”
The sympathizer of the right-wing extremist citizens of the Reich, who long for a radical overthrow and wanted on an international arrest warrantmake an adventurous connection between alleged satanic masses and what he calls “corona crimes”, reports the Swiss portal.
