The most recent data shared by the European Union prove that the Portuguese are among those who suffer the most from the cold indoors. Not only because of the old construction of the buildings, but also because of the high price of electricity. And it was in this sense that the Swedish brand decided to launch this campaign.
With the concept “Portugal is a cold country. Someone has to heat it”, IKEA wants to make known to the Portuguese several tips to keep warmer at home, eagerly the need for heaters.
“At IKEA, we are always committed to meeting the needs of our local communities and making comfort and well-being more accessible. In winter, this comfort involves being able to stay warmer at home. But nowadays, with all the financial challenges and rising cost of living that families are facing, thermal comfort in the home is more and more of a challenge. This need to keep warm at home at the same time as we want to save energy, combined with IKEA’s commitment to sustainability, lead us to develop products that help maintain comfort at home and want to share some solutions that help us save some money and that simultaneously lead to the adoption of more behavioral behaviors.”says Ana Barbosa, Sustainability Manager at IKEA Portugal.
This IKEA campaign shows that, with small tricks and simple and economical changes, it is possible to achieve greater thermal comfort and reduce the impact on the electricity bill, and on the planet:
• Keeping the temperature at home with curtains
Thick curtains keep out cold drafts and help preserve temperature. There are also options for honeycomb warehouses that save energy, as they have a unique honeycomb structure, which creates a layer of insulation that helps reduce heating costs.
• Warm up at home with textiles
The use of textiles (rugs, blankets, etc.), in addition to making homes more welcoming, helps maintain thermal comfort. An extra warm duvet can help the Portuguese to stay warm at night and allows you to reduce the need for heating in the room, without feeling cold.
• Save energy with Home Smart
About 25% of the world’s energy consumption is used for lighting. And that’s a lot of energy. That’s why the brand also has some energy-saving recommendations: LED bulbs that save 85% energy and last about 20 times longer than incandescent bulbs; the TRADFRI smart plugs that allow you to set timers on the app IKEA smart home and choose the period in which you want the device connected to the socket to be working; or even the motion sensors that only light up when they detect someone’s presence.
