7: 5 in the National League – fight, spectacle and goals: Geneva wrestles Bern down – sport
A pass integrated across the entire field by Josh Jooris left not only the fans in the PostFinance Arena amazed, but also all 5 Bernese on the ice: Tanner Richard finished free-standing and hit the bar powerfully to make it 5: 4: it should Give Geneva a decisive lead in this attractive game.
The well-played 6: 4 of the guests by Benjamin Antoinetti (49th) was countered by the Bernese in the person of Joël Vermin (51st), but the in-form capital city club didn’t do more than that. A crowd in the goal area from Geneva goalie Robert Mayer, which Bern expected to see 1 minute before the end, did not result in a goal even after video studies, but Richard scored 12 seconds before the end to make it 7:5.

Geneva’s Outstanding “Special Teams”
The game had not started as expected in terms of hits: In the goalless third, only Geneva’s boxplay was brilliant: the leader survived 3 shorthanded situations, Captain Noah Rod even missed the shorthander after a counterattack just before the first break by a hair’s breadth.
Goals then rained down in the middle third, with two personalities standing out:
- Chris DiDomenico: Bern’s top scorer, who was still missing a chance in the first period, made it 2-0 within 3 minutes with a precise penalty and a powerful long-range shot. Later, he started Tyler Ennis’ goal to make it 3-1 with a fine dribbling. In between, Rod had shortened for Geneva after a brilliant pass from Daniel Winnik.
- Marc Antoine Pouliot: The other native Canadian was the executor of Geneva’s fight to continue to establish itself as the best powerplay team in the league: The “Calvinstadt” team was only 38 seconds in excess for 2 goals, Pouliot hit both men (33./40.) to 2:3 and 3:3. It was the first two SCB penalties of the game.
The “big” names provided the music in the third period as well: after a blunder by Colton Sceviour, Geneva top scorer Winnik brought his colors ahead for the first time with a 4:3. 3 minutes and another phenomenal dribble by DiDomenico later Benjamin Baumgartner might be out again. The SCB should then no longer be able to react to the next Geneva tour.
The leader of the table can thus string together 2 wins after a short bear market. Second-placed Biel (3:4 aet in Ambri) is now 4 points behind. Bern loses against Geneva for the first time this season and has to cede fourth place to the Lakers (5:2 against ZSC).
