The world’s first NFT biennial is in Istanbul!
The world’s first NFT, ‘Quantum’, was published in 2014 by Kevin McCoy. Beeple’s NFT painting ‘Everydays: The First 5000 Days’, which was auctioned beyond Christie’s in 2021, attracted attention when it sold for $69 million. We will witness new developments every day about the unique NFTs that entered our lives rapidly with the pandemic period and cannot be copied. Many artists are now attracting the attention of their art collections from digital sources by producing on NFT. Art galleries hold NFT exhibitions.
And now the world’s first NFT biennial opened its doors yesterday at Zorlu PSM in Istanbul. The ‘NFT Biennial’, which will last for two months, will meet art lovers in Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Brussels, Bogota, Los Angeles and Tokyo after Istanbul. The biennial, where more than 100 NFT works of art are exhibited, will also be accessible from the world of the metaverse. The visit arrangements of Zorlu PSM on the giant screen in the foyer and in the gallery area were prepared by a team of 12 curators for the biennial. Visitors will be able to participate in VR/AR experiences, performances, panels and talks, as well as their exhibitions. Today at 19.30 at Zorlu PSM, multidisciplinary artist Ecem Dilan Köse will perform an audio-visual performance called ‘Human’ with digital music creator TKO (Osman Kürşat Tuncer).
Human technology and its relation to nature
Intertwined expression of the concepts of nature, human and technology ‘NFT Biennial’ director Rahim Ünlü said, “He directs, transforms and manages these three concepts, which we cannot separate from each other with certain lines, one by one, in endless ways. However, the relationship between these concepts, moving towards the future, becomes more complex, their differences seem to be melting away on the one hand, while on the other hand they are becoming more evident. The NFT Biennial, the boundary of the post-human age, calls us to question our relationship with technology and nature, which will not reach a conclusion at human limits.”
A psychedelic call
One of the Biennial’s striking works is Tamiko Thiel’s attention to the underwater life ‘Anthropocene Confusionnamed work. By donating 10 percent of the proceeds from this NFT to oceanconservancy.org, the artist aims to contribute to reducing the production of the only plastics it contains, as well as to plastic collection and recycling. The artist, who uses his work as a psychedelic call to protect and honor the beauty of the sea from the plastics that we throw as garbage on the world’s beaches and the product of our laziness, wants to bring it through: the fish Experience how our senses are distorted when we cannot distinguish whether it is plastic or plastic garbage. Help end plastic pollution.”
A creative space for arts and culture enthusiasts
Stating that they aim to create multidisciplinary spaces in culture and arts, PSM General Manager Filiz Ova says in the future: “The world’s first NFT biennial, signed by world-leading curators.NFT BiennialWe are very happy to host.
