Sport funding: State of Salzburg supports sport with an additional two million
The state of Salzburg will support sport in the state with an additional two million this year. Important points here are the renovation of sports facilities, the promotion of top-class sport and major international events.
SALZBURG. Last year, 37 renovations and some new constructions of sports facilities in the province of Salzburg were managed with special budgets. A total of 2.2 million were spent on this. Important projects included the renovation of the ice rink in Zell am See and the north sports center as well as the new building of the sports center in Altenmarkt im Pongau and the facility in Elsbethen. Top-class sport was also supported with a total of 300,000 euros. This year, the state of Salzburg wants to spend an additional two million.
An absolute need
In 2023, Salzburg sport will get two million more than in the previous year. “Sport is a necessary need of the people of Salzburg and is simply part of a healthy lifestyle and a high quality of life. Modern facilities make a significant contribution to motivating even more people to exercise,” explains State Councilor for Sport Stefan Schnöll.
More for renovation and expansion
Adequate investments should be made, especially in the area of renovation and new construction of sports facilities. Last year, 2.2 million euros were already made available for this through special budgets. The largest projects that were managed with this money were the ice rink in Zell am See and the sports center north, each with around half a million euros, as well as the new construction of the house of sports in Pongau and the facility in Elsbethen, each with 465,000 euros.

This year, spending on the renovation of sports facilities is to be increased by another 50 percent, from one to one and a half million. Other focal points this year are the promotion of top-level sport and major international events. “By increasing the budget, we as the state government are sending an important signal,” state councilor Stefan Schnöll is certain.
Last year, 77 top Salzburg athletes were supported by the state with a total of 100,000 euros. Among them were 48 men and 29 women. Furthermore, 21 professionals from the Olympic squad and five from the perspective squad were supported with almost 200,000 euros.
