New opening: The World of Poisons is reopened in Bergheim
On January 7, 2023, the ZooMuseum called “World of Poisons” will reopen in Bergheim. The World of Poisons is now almost twice as big as before and has many new animals. Managing Director Nils Kley and his wife Sandra Kley are delighted numerous visitors.
Bergheim, Salzburg. In Bergheim there is an exciting museum and an exciting zoo. Veterinarian Nils Kley and his wife and animal nutritionist Sandra Kley opened the ZooMuseum in 2020. These include very venomous animals such as ringtail vipers, rattlesnakes, a Gaboon viper, adders, spitting cobras, black widows, scorpions, puffer fish and much more. But nobody needs to be afraid of the poisonous animals here, because the animals are professionally cared for by Nils Kley in compliance with all legal requirements and safely stored, while Sandra Kley takes care of the organization. In addition to his work as a veterinarian with a doctorate with a focus on reptiles and other “exotic animals”, Kley also examines these animals as a recognized expert in Austria and Germany.
Poisons as a zoo theme
While there are some native and exotic poisonous animals to admire in the World of Poisons, there are also poisonous plants and a variety of poisonous exhibits from around the world. The poisonous plants in particular always arouse astonishment among visitors. “I have that as a houseplant in my apartment!” Nils Kley hears again and again. The animals themselves come primarily from private donations, sanctuaries and zoos, but also from official confiscations, for example as “stowaways” from international deliveries of goods. In addition to guided tours for private individuals, school classes and companies in German or optionally English, the WdG also offers photo sessions, children’s birthday parties and seminars. The latter include a terrarium consultation hour in addition to various specialist courses for the safe handling of poisonous animals. “The terrarium consultation hour is intended for prospective private owners who would like to get professional advice before purchasing a turtle, gecko or other terrarium animal in terms of owner and animal,” says Nils Kley.
Things to know about poisons
According to the Kleys, the aim of the exhibition is to convey knowledge about various gifts to all age groups in a clear and entertaining way and to counter any concerns, worries and phobias with calm, respect and competence. “The more you know, the less you have to be afraid,” says Nils Kley, while calmly and adeptly feeding a cobra.
The new, larger ones should do better justice to this task. In any case, Sandra and Nils Kley are looking forward to welcoming numerous visitors to the reopening on January 7, 2023 to greet you in the world of poisons in Bergheim.
