Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa at the New Year’s concert in Santarém
The usual New Year’s concert in Santarém will take place this Saturday, January 7th, starting at 6 pm, in the large auditorium of the National Exhibition Center (CNEMA), with the Metropolitan Orchestra of Lisbon, conducted by the Brazilian maestro Evandro Matté .
It will thus be a concert with a flavor of Brazil, which will combine Austrian waltzes and polkas with classical music from Brazil, on the occasion of the bicentennial of the country’s independence. The show will feature songs by Johann Strauss II and five themes by António Carlos Gomes, Francisco Braga, Arthur Barbosa, Franz Lehár and Alberto Nepomuceno, considered among the most important composers of classical music in Brazil.
The New Year’s Concert program includes the opera “Alvorada” and the opening of the opera “O Guarani”, by António Carlos Gomes, the waltz “Ouro e Prata” by Franz Lehár, the fast polka “Sob Trovões e Relâmpagos” and the polkas “Tritsch-Tratsch” and “Annen” and the waltz “Danubio Azul”, by Johann Strauss II, “Batuque”, by Alberto Nepomuceno, “Toada e Desafio” by Arthur Barbosa and “Episódio Sinfônico” by Francisco Braga.
Evandro Matté is artistic director and conductor of the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Theatro São Pedro and the SESC International Music Festival, based in Pelotas. He has performed with orchestras in Uruguay, Argentina, China, Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Colombia and the USA. In 2019, he was decorated by the French Ministry of Culture for the development of the arts in his artistic field.
Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa is the cornerstone of a project that goes beyond the usual format of a classical orchestra, with the aim of bringing together artistic, pedagogical and civic missions. It is appalled by 35 musicians from 10 different nationalities. He interprets a range of repertoire that extends from baroque to contemporary times, including opera and the great romantic symphonies.
The ticket goes to Local IPSS (Parish Social Center of Santa Marta de Alcanhões, Agir + Lene Project and r. INseRIR Association).
Tickets cost 5 euros and can be purchased at the beneficiary institutions, União de Freguesias da Cidade de Santarém and at Press News (Tabacaria at W-Shopping), or on the same day, at the CNEMA ticket office, one hour before the show.
